Missing Wheelie Bins On Their Way

Released: 08 Jul 2008

Recycling wheelie bins are on their way to homes in Shoreham and Lancing following a delay caused by a production fault at the manufacturer.

The problem has now been resolved and wheelie bins will be delivered to the remaining homes in Adur from July 14. Over 30,000 wheelie bins were delivered in April and the new service is proving popular with residents.

Executive head of recycling and waste management, Ken Green said:

“The council is grateful to the residents of the 3,000 homes who didn’t receive their recycling bins in April and who continued to use their blue boxes.”

The affected properties will revert to the fortnightly recycling collection service that is carried out for all other households included in the new style service with effect from 28th July.

The production fault has also caused a backlog of outstanding orders at the factory. As a result, Adur and Worthing Council Services intend to delay the rollout of the third phase of the scheme from September to October.

The delay should ensure that the next phase of the new scheme will not suffer the same problems as the second phase. The intended first day of the new scheme will now be the 6th October and households being included in phase three will be receiving information leaflets in the next few weeks. The third phase of the scheme will include properties in Goring-by-Sea, West Tarring, West Worthing and parts of Broadwater.
