Materials Recycling Facility at Ford is now open

A state of the art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) has opened in Ford, near Arundel. Attached to this facility is an Education Room, which, from September 2009, will allow school children to learn and see for themselves what happens to their recycling after it is collected from their homes.

During the two-hour sessions, children will learn how the MRF sorts the recycling ready for the next stage of the recycling process. CCTV will track each part of the system to show the MRF in action. The room is designed to demonstrate the concept of ‘Close the Loop’, highlighting each stage of recycling. Sessions will include activities to compliment these stages and a chance to head out onto the viewing platform to see the MRF in operation.

This facility is available to class sized groups of children in Key Stage Two and above.

Opportunity for teachers and school staff to visit the MRF

There is an exciting opportunity for teachers and school staff to visit the MRF at Ford to find out more! Two sessions will be held in October at the MRF so teachers and school staff can experience the MRF first hand and find out what a typical session will cover. There will be a chance to venture out onto the viewing platform overlooking the MRF plant. There will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about a visit to the MRF.

  • Session 1 : Tuesday 13th October, 2.30pm to 4pm
  • Session 2 : Thursday 15th October, 2.30pm to 4pm

Important points to note:

  • Children must be 7 years and over to go out onto the viewing platform
  • We can accept a class size of children, whether its 25 or 35 in a class. The number of children to teachers will be based on the school's risk assessments etc.
  • Adults are more than welcome to visit, however a group must have more than 8 adults, with the maximum being 14 in a group.
